On January 27, 2012, Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Islam Karimov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov respectively held a telephone conversation and discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation.

According to the press service of the Turkmen president, “the parties emphasized on the importance of addressing pressing issues as saving the Aral Sea, which requires an urgent and coordinated solutions.
President of Turkmenistan wished success in Uzbekistan Chairmanship in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea for the next three years.”

During the telephone conversation, President Islam Karimov wished success to his Turkmen counterpart during the election of the president of Turkmenistan to be held in February, 2012.
