On May 1, 2012 the U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in Afghanistan with an unannounced visit. The same day he and Afghan President Hamid Karzai signed a strategic partnership agreement between the two countries in Kabul.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai said that starting from 2014 the West would provide military assistance to Afghanistan amounting to 4.1 billion dollars per year. The total amount of the assistance over ten years will exceed $ 40 billion.

March 20, 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation. Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Vladimir Tyurdenev gave an interview to “News of Uzbekistan” on this occasion and noted that “Russia cherishes friendly, good-neighborly relations with Uzbekistan.”
